CSW

We would like to hear your comments, suggestions, and questions about Catholic Schools Week for next year that would be helpful to the CSW committee.

  1. First, I want to say thank you to the group that put CSW together. It is a BIG job and I know the children really enjoyed it as did I. Monday was a good day. I think the only problem is the money at the bowling alley. Kindergarten children really do not understand money. The only thing they wanted when they first got there was to spend their money. Personally, I think we shouldn't allow money for the lower elem. students at all. Parents should be encouraged to not buy for their child either. I had no problems with Tuesday or I don't remember them right now. Wednesday was fine. I was glad to be able to stay at our site in the afternoon. K children would not be able to sit for the religion and checkers. Silver Birch is always a good time. The man who was taking care of our group apologized for the room situation. He said that he will reserve the larger room that we had last year for us right away. Both groups that day could not go on any other day so we got the smaller room. That was not the committee's fault. Friday's assembly was fun, but I thought it was lasting the whole afternoon. I was really concerned as the students were dismissed to their classrooms and we were still there. I remember being asked to have my student's dismissed from the St. John's site. I know there is a lot going on but I think we need to double check everything especially while we have two sites. Thank you to everyone who joined in with my class for the games. Now that we have 4K every day, I think we also need to include them more often. Some assemblies could be in the morning (maybe the skits) and some activities (bowling) could include them. The last thing is that the busing was a big confusion too. I know I get a list of times that we are to be on the bus and have found out that not all teachers get this list. There was some confusion on Monday in regards to getting on the bus and then the bus company ended up getting other busses out to fix the problem. I think everyone should have that list so we all know when we need to be on the bus. My only other comment is - The CSW theme was service yet we did not have a special day for service. Why? Of all the years for it this seemed the most perfect to have it.

  2. I enjoyed CSW this year. Thank you to those people that planned everything, you did a great job. I was able to do more activities since I had class every day this year. (Boy was I tired though!) I would have liked to go bowling with everyone, however this gave me an opportunity to get my service project done, so I guess that was fine. I think that if the activities on Friday would have been in the morning, my students would have really loved it. Thank you to Ms. Shaw for accommodating the 4K in the computer lab, the students really had fun and I learned alot! I know the students in my class enjoyed professor math. That was the talk as they were being picked up by their parents. All in all I thought it was a great week. ( It was also cool to be included in the All School Mass for CSW)

  3. I thought everything was well organized and ran very smoothly. Many parents also made comments that they enjoyed the activities and thought things went well. Thanks to all!

  4. Thank you to the CSW Committee for planning all of the activities and for all of your organizing of events. One parent told me on Friday of CSW that her favorite memories of St. John School were of CSW activities. I am sure our students will also remember their CSW activities with fold memories.

  5. I think things went well, thank you to all who helped. The only thing that I might suggest would be to have the Silver Birch trip on a different day. Some of the students that were up so late on Wednesday at the Lip Sync were exhausted before even leaving for Silver Birch. Just a thought, otherwise it was a fun week!

  6. A HUGE thank you to the committee! WOW!
Loved the math professor. Very interesting!
Some teachers were kind of throwing the service project together at the last minute because it was not originally on the list of activities.
Bowling and skating was a lot for one day. Some students weren't really appreciating the fact that we were even at the bowling alley and just spending their money (like Terry said).
I think that the week is slightly overrun with travel. With budgets so tight is is necessary for us to be going so many places in one week? Also, we have built up the expectation so much that if we now take anything away will there be problems?
This comment is NOTHING against the committee--if I were on the panel I would feel it necessary to keep up with years passed too.
Do you think a questionnaire home to parents would be beneficial? See what they think?

  7. Thank you to all who were on the planning committee for CSW. I am sure that many hours were spent arranging the activities of the week.

The week was fun but exhausting. In the future, would it be possible to have less activities? As a parent, my children were less than pleasant to be around by Thursday morning, they were so tired. I agree with Amy in that with tight budget perhaps we should begin to look at ways to condense or change activities. The assembly on Friday was a good example of a way we can celebrate who we are as a school without spending a ton of money on bussing or asking parents to shell out money....again.

  8. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Great job! After Monday's Tech. instruction I created a survey (on surveymonkey.com) and had my students fill it out. All of my students enjoyed the week. They really enjoyed bowling, sakating and Silver Birch. Their thought for the future were to bring swimming back and have more time to read during PJ/reading day. Another comment was to have a class color day. They didn't really care for dress your best day.

I enjoyed the week a lot. It is always nice to see your students having fun. I know by the end of the week I was exhausted! My olny other suggestion would be to try to separate the Religion Bee and Checker tournament. It seems to be a long time to sit and my students lost interest.

Thanks for all everyone did to make it a wonderful week.

  9. Thank you for all of your hard work. It seems to me that my students had a great week. I also enjoyed the week but by the end I was exhausted. My suggestion would be to have less traveling activities. I thought the assembly on Friday was great!

  10. It was a very exciting and action packed week! I think our students have come to expect so many activities and the committee did a wonderful job fulfilling that expectation. There are always going to be glitches with so many things going on but I think that comes with the territory- the more you do, the more chances there are for a mix-up or two. Thanks again to the committee!

  11. Thanks so much to the CSW committee for organizing everything. It's a lot of work for one big fun-filled week, and your efforts are greatly appreciated!
I enjoyed the activities and would maybe ask for doing less things or have more in-house events in the future. It was a fantastic, but very exhausting week!
My students thought the week was great overall. Their favorites were mostly PJ/Reading Day and Silver Birch. Least favorites were checker/religion bee and mass. Some suggestions for the future were swimming, going to the movies, or having a science bee. Some are also hoping that skiing will be available for 4th graders.
